- BuzzMusic Heard It First: Bleu Stroud Releases New Single "Blue Town"
Bleu Stroud, a California native, is an 18-year old who’s music reflects that laid-back, LA-centric singer-songwriter style of her hometown. This multi-instrumentalist has no formal training, but instead learned naturally how to play the guitar, twelve string guitar, ukulele, banjo and the piano. At the age of eight, Bleu Stroud started playing guitar and wrote her first song. As a shy child, she found her solace in her voice and songwriting. As Bleu grew older, her music evolved into personal narratives about love, pain, trusting one’s self, enduring hope and acceptance. Bleu Stroud takes a quirky, fun approach to her melodies and lyrics, with a stylistic touch on alternative folk and a dash of country and pop with her silky smooth vocals, that we can't get enough of! Releasing her debut single “Blue Town" we are here to hear it first! Oh Bleu. My ears haven’t heard such an eccentric sound. This song starts of so very soft and subtle. Bleu Stroud's voice is so sweet and melodic, I was pleasantly surprised when the beat dropped and I heard a new age Taylor Swift style in her. Something classic but with a sweet kick to it. There are a variety of sounds here with the drums, banjo, guitar and even what sounds like an organ or piano. The climax gives us one last view at this amazing lyricist and production. The song winds us down to an ending with guitar strings and her beautiful voice. This country-pop-alternative-folk artist is bound to win over the charts. Bleu Stroud has so much to be proud of and so much to look forward to this year! We can't wait to hear what's next! Be sure to listen to "Blue Town" and check out our exclusive interview below where we talk about Bleu's new single "Blue Town" and her upcoming role in a feature film! Hey there! Would you mind introducing yourself to our readers? Hey, I’m Bleu Stroud. So excited to be featured on BuzzMusic LA! Tell us what music means to you, what inspired you to pursue music? To me, music is an escape. I can be myself and communicate things through my lyrics. Music lets me take feelings and situations, good or bad, and turn them into something beautiful. I’ve always loved music and writing and when I realized that I could put it together and create songs…..that’s the only thing I’ve wanted to do. How has living in Los Angeles inspired you as an artist? Well living in LA, I’ve been able to see a lot of my favorite artists perform live. Whenever I go to one of these shows, it inspires me so much and makes me want to be on a stage like that. What is your favorite instrument to play and why? I love playing the guitar. I play it almost everyday. Right when I get home from school, I pick it up….and usually start writing something new Could you give us a little insight to your latest single? I'm really excited because my first official single “Blue Town” is being released soon. I wrote this song almost 4 years ago, when I was 14. Basically the song is about a negative relationship….not necessarily about a romantic one. Just in general…about standing up for yourself…and not letting yourself get pulled back into that negativity and dishonesty. What about this song specifically is a direct reflection of you? My whole life so far I’ve lived in the same town, and I’ve never really stood up for myself. This song was my way of saying I’m gonna stand up for myself and not let others control my life. What can we expect to see or hear from you this year? So, like I mentioned my first single and music video “Blue Town” is being released really soon. I also recorded a full album with 10 songs that will be released soon afterwards. And I’m hoping to book a lot of live shows to support it. Lastly, I’m so excited to announce that two of my tracks off my new LP will be in the new feature film titled “Trading Paint” staring John Travolta and Shania Twain. The movie will be in theatres on February 22nd! I also sang the National Anthem for the film. So exciting for me to hear my music on the big screen! - SadBoyPete Will Evoke Emotion With New Song "Alone"
An auto-tune enthusiast and future songbird, SadBoyPete is a artist on the rise from Delaware. He is a artist that doesn’t aim to inform but rather aims to evoke emotion. SadBoyPete wants you to feel something after listening to his music. With catchy hooks and clever songwriting he paints a picture of his own personal pain he feels many can relate too. SadBoyPete showcases his frustration through vulnerable rap. The release of his single “Alone” depicts his unguarded sentiments and unprotected emotions with a trendy auto-tune vocal resonance riding the bass and beat perfectly. “Alone” is an idiosyncratic rap record that holds its own in a world of congested and overcrowded hip hop music that seems to discuss the same topics, without having a authentic story that’s personable to the listeners. The listeners can not only understand the meaning of the song but understand the meaning of the artist. It’s a special trait that SadBoyPete has to uncover his own personal layers for his fans and for his listeners. It shows you the true character of SadBoyPete behind the fancy tune. Listen to "Alone" here and check out our exclusive interview below. Hi Pete! Care to introduce yourself to our readers? Hey BuzzMusic readers, I’m SadBoyPete, auto-tune enthusiast and future song bird. I appreciate you checking out my music and feel you’ll be able to relate to it. Why did you decide to name yourself “SadBoyPete”? I’ve had so many names lol ( I’m gonna try to list them) Kid Crack, Archie Waterbeds, Just.Pete, finally SadBoyPete. I was going through some personal stuff and at the same time linked up with some guys locally in Wilmington, De who are all super talented. I used to care more about “bars” and being clever but once linking with @Sqwalla(dope artist check him out on Instagram) and @nabidd(great producer and engineer check him out on Instagram) I really started to vibe with the sound coming out of their studio. I felt it more, and adapted my style. With that came a bunch of vulnerable music and SadBoyPete felt right. Do you draw most of your inspiration for your songwriting from your own personal life experiences? Yes!! Being yourself is the most important aspect of being a musician and something I take great pride in. I’m always true to myself. It’s common in music to try and be something you’re not, I know because It took me a long time to be true to myself. You have an incredible way of showcasing emotion! How do you channel yourself into your music?? This is a story I’ve told 1000 times. In the summer of 2018 at our third session, @nabidd told me to “stop trying to inform people and make them feel something.” That resonated with me and helped me channel my emotion. I was having a tough year, health issues, tired of my corporate job, frustrated with a lot of different things. With the advice from Nabidd and my own personal frustration I was able to channel my emotion into my songs. Do you produce your own tracks? No my producers are @nabidd @homegrown302 @drewfinessse. Those are their Instagram handles. @nabidd is the engineer. All these guys are stupid fucking talented and I give them a lot of the credit for my sound. What advice do you have for other upcoming artists? Be your self. Allow yourself to be inspired but don’t try to be anything your not. Also don’t rip beats off YouTube find a quality producer. Songs shouldn’t be more than 2:30 in my opinion. Find a catchy hook and go from there, if you have a good hook the verses will write themselves. - An Introduction to Vancouver's Professional Pianist and Composer Benson Lai
Hi Benson, care to introduce yourself to our readers? I was born and raised in Edmonton AB, Canada which is a moderate sized city of a million in Western Canada. My background is a professional pianist and composer for media. I have branched out and also became a singer/songwriter/producer over the years. I am a multi-instrumentalist playing guitar and sing as well. Knowing that you received a degree in Biological Sciences. Is piano playing more so a hobby that you've turned into a part-time career? Do you plan on perusing music full time? I actually went to Nursing school after I obtained my Science degree and became a Registered Nurse whereby I work full time during the day. I split my time through 3 musical endeavors. I have my own piano studio that I teach once a week, play piano gigs locally in the hospitality industry and run an audio production company writing music for a variety of projects in the film, television and video game industries. I currently just work on my music part time but eventually hope to transition to it as my primary career eventually. I love playing the piano but enjoy writing music more as my love is to emotionally enhance projects with my own compositions and songs. Mind telling our readers a little bit about "SOCAN"? SOCAN is the performing rights organization in Canada much like BMI and ASCAP is in the United States. 4. What has been your most memorable moment thus far in your career? The most memorable moment so far as a composer is having my music placed in a independent feature film based in San Francisco California called "The Minds of Men" directed by Sean Shing. A romantic comedy based from the perspective of men. If you can compose music for any project in the world what would you choose and why? I would love to work on Hollywood Film Trailers. Their epic sound is really exciting to hear so once I get the skill set for that it would be a dream to have my music in an official Hollywood campaign; in addition, I am a big fan of pop music so working on more singles from a songwriter/producer perspective be great as I predominately write instrumental music for media projects. What has been your favorite moment so far in the production of music? I think for me hearing the final piece is a great experience. With music technology now musicians can create professional sounding recording all from their home studios which is amazing as I get to have my music placed in projects around the world thanks to the advent of the internet. How challenging is it for you to compose music? At times it can be quite challenging trying to come up with ideas and turning them into finished pieces, but like all writers we love the process it entails. Mind telling us a little bit about your new track you're planning on releasing? I will be sending you guys one of my newer hybrid orchestral film trailer tracks. It blends modern sounds with the orchestra that you would hear in the latest movies and film trailers. Any personal favorite maneuvers of yours? Health is a big interest of mine as I am a Registered Nurse. I workout 4-5 x a week and taken up yoga recently to contrast the weight and strength training in the gym. I can do a mean child's pose during hot yoga which is just me in resting position lol. I have horrible flexibility so its quite humbling to me. - Monday Music: Nia Orea Releases New Hit "Budda"
Marcia Evans, known as Nia Orea is an electronic and dance musician. Nia's love for music started very early on. From living in a house where the stereo stayed on permanently to her uncle managing Bob Marley, Nia Orea was bound to be in music. Kicking off her music career by producing local dancehall acts became a huge success! Nia Orea's style ranges from a variety of styles within the Electronic and EDM genres, with teases into Trap, Pop, Future Bass and Hip Hop. Nia Orea describes her sound as “Urban Bass” with influences coming from artists like Flume, Bonobo, Flying Lotus and Diplo. Let’s take a look into a track off her new EP titled “Budda”. Nia Orea has some sass! Being in the EDM game as a female is tough enough but to come in with some heat this hard is amazing! "Budda" starts off with this nice build up...then the beat drops. This trippy, vibey, bouncy track will be stuck in your head for days! The production for "Budda" was done top notch. The vocal overlays are just enough. Some EDM artists seem to get wrapped up in just the vocals or just the beat, here we have a nice healthy balance making this hit smooth as silk. “Budda” has officially been added to my current work playlist and I encourage others to tune in and see how awesome "Budda" really is! Listen to "Budda" here and be sure to follow Nia Orea on social media for all new music and updates! Hey Nia! Can you do me a favor and introduce yourself to our readers? Hey Everyone! My name is Nia Orea and my aim is to make music that you can daydream to. I wanna connect and take my listeners on a journey. What to you is the hardest thing as a female in the EDM world? Getting noticed and being taken seriously.....I really hate to say it but things need to change....big time and its taking way too long. When you are stuck in your music, what are some things you do to get out of that creative rut? Well I'm a gamer so when I'm stuck it means its time to take a break, unwind and then the musical juices will start flowing again. Can you give us an insight to this track “Budda”? Wanted to create a hype track for the EDM community, It's festival season soon so you know. Also it was time for me to switch things up a bit. For the fellow EDM ladies out there, do you have any advice? Stay consistent ladies, network and stay positive. Never give up on your dreams and don't let anyone stop you from chasing after them. What can we expect from you this year Nia? I'm giving my all this year cause last year was all about growth for me, this year I just want to show the world what I got. - Melotika Releases Iconic Music Video “Don’t Believe (You Speak)”
Melotika released her video to ““Don’t Believe (You Speak)” and we were abundantly impacted by the immediate display of her gaudy fashion selection, serving looks before her intricate vocals finishes off the detail. The chemistry between her and the other characters in the video was nicely orchestrated well to a point where it seemed almost natural and highly fitting for the aesthetic of the record. What I appreciated the most about Melotika's music video was her intricate way of fabricating complex storytelling and exceeding the expectations I had for a pop style visual. The video was really different than anything I've seen for quite sometime! If you throw-it-back to 2005 when Panic! At The Disco released their music video for "I Write Sins Not Tragedies", thinking how cool and captivating that music video was - like you are watching a short film or theater performance. I got that exact same feeling and vibe from Melotika's video "“Don’t Believe (You Speak)”. “Don’t Believe (You Speak)” has a sexual and powerful stance that we loved. I was highly impressed by Melotika’s way of demonstrating her sensual character in a subtle erotic manner. The long hours, acting and persistence really paid off for Melotika and the team. “Don’t Believe (You Speak)” is a song and video that you need to check out! Check out our exclusive interview with Melotika about her new music video below. Listen to "“Don’t Believe (You Speak)” here. Hi Melotika! Congratulations on your new music video! What was your initial vision for the video? Did the outcome match your expectations? My initial vision for the video was to captivate the meaning behind the song “Don’t Believe (You Speak)” visually as best as possible. During the pre-production of the video, with Cinematographer from Mississauga Eric Soto, we discussed the meaning and origin behind the song and dived into psychology and popular culture. “Don’t Believe (You Speak)” is about being in a toxic relationship and how the relationship failed due to false expectations and emotional abuse. The video was meant to have an actual story line with different characters portraying different roles of the relationship. The video was also made to empower the victim of this toxic, abusive relationship. The outcome did indeed match my expectations! The pre-production was done cautiously in order to captivate the meaning of the song. Every role and actor had a purpose and significance. A general script was written and behind the scenes myself, Melotika, directed all the actors and had created all the costumes in order to make the story work. Simple gestures, facial expressions, costume and body language were crucial elements to make this indie music video work. How would you interpret the video for our readers in your own artist perspective? The video is obvious in the sense that there is one male character, played by hip hop artist Krosst Out, dominating (or at least trying to!) the three women seen in the video. This was purposely done to make light of the stereotypes in Western Culture where the alpha male will do anything to get what he wants through manipulation and power, however in the end his tactics fail. It is noticeable in the video that Melotika is conflicted with this character. Throughout the video both Melotika and the aplha male are constantly arguing and at each other's throats. One of the females played by Elysya Scerbo-Pasta, known as Elle Dante, portrays the role of a flirty, pin-up style female who can easily seduce the alpha male. Her role also signifies what the alpha male TRULY WANTS the most in a significant other and wishes his partner were extremely feminine, playful, and flirtatious at all times. This was done to make light of the stereotypes created in Western Culture and false expectations of ‘what a women should be’. The other female played by Lenka Schrottová, known as Lenkina Von Check, represents rather the complete opposite: a conservative and corporate female with her guards up and does not trust the alpha male one bit. The alpha male character in this video fails to gain this characters attention. Her role signifies what the alpha male DOESN’T WANT in a significant other which is being strong, prudent, and sharp because if that were to happen, the alpha male would feel, in his perspective, less in power. Again, this was done to make light of the stereotypes created in Western Culture and false expectations of ‘what a women should not be’. Now that it is 2019 and these subjects are no longer taboo, it was a great opportunity for myself to play with this topic through creating performance art. The final character that we see in the indie music video is a mime. In theatre and drama, a mime is known for bodily gestures and techniques for entertainment purposes. Mime’s do not speak; such as the title of the song “Don’t Believe (You Speak).” I had the idea of introducing a mime to elaborate further on this subject as a metaphor, meaning women should not be “silenced” and that women do have a say in society, relationships, careers etc. In this video, the mime also signifies creativity, intelligence, and being the outsider of this awkward situation between the aplha male and the three women in the video. The mime is looking over the situation, sort of like a narrator of the story and/or the subconscious of the main character, Melotika. Finally, Elle Dante kindly brought a long to the scene her snake Dakota. Serpents typically symbolise fertility, rebirth and transformation. This fit in perfectly with the video as it brought something new to the plate; something fun and alluring. How has this project been different than anything you've done before? My previous music videos did not involve other actors. This was exciting and special because I was able to get out of my comfort zone and allow others to help tell a story. I introduced people who are very close to me in my personal life such as hip-hop Krosst Out, who is my current partner and Elle Dante and Lenkina Von Check who are very close friends of mine. It was great to see these people on camera in a Melotika video! I took deeply into consideration everyone's strengths and personalities to fit them in these unique roles. Having the opportunity to assist Eric Soto behind the scenes directing the actors was a very fun process as well. When it comes to art, I get really into it. I remember asking the actors to mimic what I was doing behind the camera so that they can choreograph the same movements and gestures in front of the camera and make it all happen. It was also advised to them to remain poker face while I give them a lap dance. I would say things like “YES! This is a great moment. Do it again!” or things like “stay right there, don’t move. Tilt your head to the side...’’ I think one of the worst parts in making this video was that I had to slap Krosst Out really hard in front of the camera to get some emotion. Another funny moment was asking Krosst Out to give a kiss on the cheek to one of my friends. I thought this was funny! It’s all for the art! Do you find any challenges in connecting with the camera or is it second nature to you? Somehow connecting with the camera is easy. It allows me to be the person I always wanted to be and to express myself the most. In everyday life I am more of an introvert. A lot goes through my wandering mind,. When a camera is in front of me, suddenly I feel at ease and it is finally my time to shine. As a teenager I had practiced a lot of photography and small skits in college. This may have helped me overcome camera challenges. What’s one of your favorite parts in creating a music video? My favorite parts in creating a music video beyond creating a unique story to tell, is the costumes, makeup and props. If you have seen my other videos, you will find a similar trend with my videos: elements of quirkiness, the meticulous use of colour and props that have actual significance. I love putting the pieces of my own puzzles together and making things happen. Creating music videos allow me to change my persona for fun, get theatrical and act. We can't wait to hear what's next from you! What can your fans expect in 2019? This year for 2019, I will be releasing a few singles. It is intended to make at least one new music video to go along with one of the singles. On March 15th, I will be participating in The Bout Showcase Festival in Toronto at The Hideout. In the Month of May, along with Krosst Out, we will be touring Canada’s West Coast to meet new fans and network with other artists. A lot of other shows will be scheduled for the year. No dates officially confirmed as of yet but to be expected to perform in Canada’s East Coast during the summer time! - Get Lost In A Trance With Lana Lubany's Single “Fairy Dust”
Lana Lubany is a talented artist on the rise! This American/Palestinian artist started her career singing in a multi-national peace choir. From here, she discovered her passion for music and performing. Lana was singled out as a soloist and was giving the opportunity to perform in front of president Obama. Upon graduation from high school, she began uploading covers to YouTube and focusing on her own music and songwriting. After releasing a fan favorite single “One Of A Kind” early 2017, Lana began working on her debut album which was released June 2018. The last song on the EP, “Fairy Dust” was the last song to be released and is here for us to hear today! “Fairy Dust” comes in so soft and delicate. Her vocals follow, beautifully, soulful and strong! The melody is so soothing that you almost miss the story within the lyrics. When you go back and catch the lyrics, you can hear the hurt and sadness. So lost in a trance of her sultry voice, you can hear the confidence in her sound. A well produced track can be the difference between a Grammy and an untouched track. Lana Lubany has the total package. Giving us original lyrics, a soft yet strong vocal range and production that pulls it all together! Check out our exclusive interview with Lana Lubany below and listen to "Fairy Dust" here. Hi Lana! If you could, please introduce yourself to our readers? I’m Lana Lubany, a 22 year old singer-songwriter. I was born in Tel Aviv as a Palestinian and an American, which has shaped me greatly as a person. I now speak 4 languages: English, Arabic, Hebrew and German. I’ve been singing ever since I was a child, and writing for almost as long. When I was 12 I let my mother know that I wanted to be a singer when I grew up! And that I have become. I started writing music seriously after my high school graduation in 2015, and I’ve released a few songs since; my latest being ‘Fairy Dust’. Could you tell us what helped you create the track “Fairy Dust”? No one would ever guess this, but I was thinking of the song ‘Where Have All The Flowers Gone’ by Pete Seeger when I first started writing Fairy Dust. I wrote the first line of Fairy Dust a little based on that song and then it took its own direction. When I wrote the first few lines, I know it was going to be some sort of ballad – the kind that can make one cry. The song is about longing for yesterday and dealing with a difficult change, which is a topic anyone can probably relate to in their own way. Why did you choose to release "Fairy Dust" last? Fairy Dust is my favorite song off the EP, and I wanted the last single to be more emotional, to show a different side of me after the other singles were released. Of the singles, it was the song I had recorded last. It was my ‘baby’ for such a long time and I had kept delaying recording the vocals because I wanted it to perfect. I was waiting for the right moment, and that took a long time to get to! What do you hope others get from your music? I hope that when others listen to my music they can, in their own way, relate to my lyrics. I am all about emotion. The last few songs I’ve released have an uplifting vibe to them, but if you pay attention to the lyrics, they’re quite the opposite. If the lyrics can help someone out there feel better, then they did their duty. I also want my listeners to have fun while listening to my music – blast it in the car and sing along. What has influenced your music the most? Existing songs out there always give me inspiration to write something new. Sometimes I base a song off another and it grows its own wings from there. My style keeps changing every year. I feel like the people around me kind of influence the kind of music I create. What do you have planned this year with your music? This year I am starting a new project with my management focusing on RnB more than bubbly pop. I am going to write a lot of new music and hopefully travel a lot doing that. - HYLYND Sends Us A Sensual Sound With “Pleasure”
HYLYND is from North Carolina, he currently resides in Dallas, Texas. This singer, songwriter & multi-instrumentalist fell in love with music early on in his life. At the age of two, he was playing the drums and by thirteen was placing and winning singing competitions at state and national levels. HYLYND has been performing at clubs, festivals, and at local and national venues effortlessly engaging the crowds. He writes songs that are both fresh and timeless with a voice to carry them out, HYLYND is destined to change the game. Musical influences ranging from Whitney Houston, Michael Jackson, Mariah Carey, to Led Zeppelin, Queen and U2. The Beat Forest mentions that HYLYND “Crafted out of nostalgic falsetto, sweeping synth patterns, and whimsical songwriting...a feel good blend of 90s synth-pop over modern indie-tronica.” The latest track off of his new EP, “Pleasure”, is surely one to showcase one amazing artist. This song has an smooth effortless sound. He has that “you’ve been here before” vocals. There’s a blend of R&B, EDM, Rock, Pop and even some Indie influences in this song. The production gives a warm sensation to the soul. I can just feel the lyrics. It’s really indescribable but to feel each word as if you were to connected to it. The story line within the lyrics allow you to vibe along. Using his vocal range in complement with the beat is a talent, a skill. The climax that builds the song into the closing is done exceptionally well. We can't wait to hear what's next from HYLYND! Listen to "Pleasure" here. Hi there. Care to introduce yourself to our readers? Hi! I am Hylynd. I’m currently in Dallas, TX and if you’re reading this i want to welcome you to the family. How did you come up with your stage name and what is meaning behind it? Most of the time when writing songs, I’m visualizing a physical landscape to produce an air and a feeling. A mainstay for me has always been the highlands, so HYLYND is a wordplay on that. What was the creation process like for "Pleasure”? It started out with a pad patch line from a Yamaha CS80 synth from the 80’s and a filtered beat that had a lot of energy in it. All the sounds and textures needed to have this sense of storm, desperation, and aggressiveness. The main bass line was influenced by “Sade” and comes from the idea of a constant bass line paying no attention to the chords changing on top of it. Who influenced the song “Pleasure”? Believe it or not, Pleasure? Is about losing a close friend and being blind-sighted by it, but as the song progressed lyrically I wrapped it around romantic imagery. Where can we find you and your music? The best place to find my music is on Spotify. Even my upcoming shows are there. What are you planning on for release this year? I have several tracks I am working on and have some surprises for a Spring release as well as more releases later this year and a show most likely near you! - Release Radar: Dead Defined Tells Us Why They Are So “Unwholey”
Dead Defined thrives on the saying that “When art can’t be pigeonholed or pinned down, it elevates the very medium itself.” This independent rock band is standing confidently in sound between anthemic hard rock and technically charged industrial pop. Dead Defined’s sophomore single "Unwholey" represents that metallic industrial rock evolution in its purest form. This project was lead by singer/songwriter Craig Ewan, who is based out of Canada. Using a play on words “Unwholey” is out now on all music platforms. Whoa! While I'm sitting here listening to “Unwholey” and I'm spiralling out of control on how put together it is. I can’t decide if I want to rock out, jump into a mosh pit, dance all night long, or whip my hair back and forth! I mean this track has it ALL! And then to top it the vocals give you such an amazing scratchy bass with some lyrical scream action. Towards the end of “Unwholey”, just as you think it’s over we get one more recap of the chorus and sounds creating an explosion of lyrical and musical elements! Dead Defined has a gift to produce passion filled music that anyone can relate to and that's what we look for in a hit song. Being able to relate to the track is everything, and Dead Defined has delivered this song in all the right ways. Bravo! We're looking forward to watching Dead Defined's rise in success throughout 2019.
