- Jon Omen Swallows His Pride And Wears His Heart On His Sleeve In “A Girl Like You”
Jon Omen was born and raised in Salt Lake City, Utah. His musical journey began at 14 years old when he began writing music. After high school, he turned down a chemistry scholarship to join the Marine Corps. During his service, he placed roots near the city in his twenties when he gained acquaintances at a local studio, where he was able to create music and receive industry advice on how to succeed as an artist. He played in several bands around the city, playing mostly rock and alternative. After deciding to reinvent himself, he began a solo project, trying to find new sounds. With inspiration from Foster the People, The Neighborhood, and AJR, Jon Omen has been able to create a sound entirely his own. Jon will release his debut EP in 2019, stay tuned! “A Girl Like You” is a retrospective track at Jon Omen’s thoughts and feelings about his dream girl. The light-hearted pop tune is an upbeat love anthem that we’re bumping on repeat! “A Girl Like You” is refreshingly truthful and vulnerable. “Does A Girl Like You ever think about a guy like me?”, Jon belts out throughout the chorus. He curates a relatable hit for everyone from all walks of life to enjoy. The rhythmic textures fuse brilliantly with Jon’s powerful, meaningful vocals. The empowering track is definitely being added to our playlists and we highly recommend you do they same! Listen to “A Girl Like You” here and read more with Jon Omen in our interview. Hi Jon! Welcome to BuzzMusic! How did you get started as a singer/songwriter? I started writing songs when I was about 14 or so. I played in several different bands growing up which forced me to always be writing. I joined the military when I was 19 and that forced me to shift more into the songwriter state of mind and I wouldn't usually have many instruments around me, a guitar at most. After I got out I kept writing songs, I love helping other artists take their vision in their mind and turning it into something great. How do you draw inspiration from your various musical influences? The most important thing for me has got to be a vibe. I care about how a song makes me feel. Its possible to hear two songs from two completely different genres and get the same feeling from them, and that's such an amazing thing to me. Tell us more about the lyrics in “A Girl Like You”! What emotions did you have to channel while creating this song? This song is about meeting that person who you have an instant connection with. We've all met that person while out at a party, club, or wherever that you are inexplicably drawn to. You know if you don't get up and talk to them, you'll regret it for a long time. This song is about taking that chance with them. What’s your favorite lyric in “A Girl Like You”? Why? I have a thing for the bridge section in songs, they give me a chance to put a twist on things. "you don't have a chance boy, you'll make a mistake. I said that is alright cuz its a risk that I'll take. I know a girl like her has probably met a lot of guys like me." I love the spin on the chorus lyric at the end there. What are you currently working on? We’d love to hear what’s next! I have a lot! I have an EP I've finished and will be releasing in the coming months. I'm also writing an album with some AWESOME tracks that I will release sometime next year. Cant wait for all the stuff to come next! Connect with Jon Omen on social media www.instagram.com/the.legend.of.jon.omen
- Brilliant Lyricist MiLynnna Drops “2000’s In A Bottle”
Residing in Fort Wayne, Indiana, MiLynnna is a gender fluid male and a new up and coming artist. MiLynnna doesn’t take lyricism lightly, but pours heart and soul into everything MiLynnna puts on paper and is adamant about being a wordsmith. The name MiLynnna is a nod to Mileena from Mortal Kombat, since MiLynnna's middle name is Lynn, the replacement felt right. Mileena is a villain that’s cloned from a princess, and will stop at nothing to dethrone her. Sometimes, MiLynnna is put into villainous positions and either tries to make light of it or put it into relatable music. Hard-hitting new hip-hop track “2000’s In A Bottle” pays tribute to shows and movies like Law and Order, PowerPuff Girls, ET, and even SpongeBob. The quirky bars, addicting backbeat and overall good time vibe make this a timeless hit. “2000’s In A Bottle” is reminiscent of old school hip-hop but remains contemporary throughout. MiLynnna was sparked with creativity when the beat was created and it instantly took us all back to our childhood. Boasting a melodic, yet thunderous soundscape of hip-hop and marinated with an eclectic musical background, MiLynnna knows what the fans want to hear. I love the confidence, knowledge and excellence on “2000’s In A Bottle” and we can’t wait to see what MiLynnna delivers next! Stay tuned for the debut album, self titled “MiLynnna”, and be on the lookout for the second project, titled “BONKERS!” coming out this winter. Check out “2000’s In A Bottle” here and keep scrolling for our interview with MiLynnna. Hey MiLynnna! Welcome to BuzzMusic! Can you start by telling us a little bit about yourself and how you got started? Well, I’m 18, I’m a Virgo/Libra cusp as my sun sign, and I’m vegan. I love/hate questions like this, because my existentialist mind goes crazy. Things like that are just surface me. With more discovery, one could see I’m multifaceted, multidimensional, and ever changing. I started seriously pursuing music in March of this year, but I’ve been writing since my freshman year of high school. I’ve always been a decent poet, and had a knack for being linguistically, and grammatically tactful. A wordsmith, thanks to my mother, who’s an English teacher. My family as a whole was very into Hip-Hop and R&B, so I figured I’d add a beat to some of my poems, and they became raps. After that, I just approached rap like poetry. Can you dive into the lyrics in “2000’s In A Bottle”? What does this track mean to you? Regarding the chorus, I wanted to have a sense of slight sexual tension. ”Gimme that head, throw you over the sofa..” It was relatively prominent in music I heard growing up, and I wanted to put that in this song, since my overall goal was to express how I felt currently in time, but deliver it in a 2000’s way. I always feel like I’m under pressure, which is why I say, “...So they back me up in a corner, murder me, it’s Law and Order...” Some of it is self inflicted, and that’s just the Virgo in me, but I also know I’m held to a standard by everyone. This is almost like me venting on a track, oddly enough. There was a point in life where it felt as if everyone was telling me I’m too existentialist to allow others to form opinions, and that’s why I said, “When the stars are real bright, it’s a typewriter night, existentialist type, never left, and it’s right...” I’m either too much, or not enough. This track allowed me to express my stresses in a light hearted way. Although people try to over extend me, I’ll bounce back and continue on in greatness. However, it’s nothing SUPER deep. Just an overall fun track for me. What was the writing process like? Like most of my raps, I’m usually playing a beat over and over and I allow the beat to tell me what it’s experiencing. I then use my own experience to express what the beat wants. Other times, I know what I want to say, or what message I want to convey, so I apply that to a beat. Either way, I’m in my room with a beat on repeat. We love your authentic sound! Do you have any specific musical influences you pull inspiration from? Thank you! I feel like if you put Nicki Minaj, Doja Cat, and Rico Nasty, into a boiling cauldron, sprinkled in OutKast, and added a pinch of Lil Aaron, you’d get me. I’m just really into Hip-Hop, R&B, Indie R&B, Alternative, and Punk music. What can we expect from your self titled project? When is it expected to be released? From my self titled project, you can expect an introduction to MiLynnna. I’m considering all my musical bodies of work to be paragraphs of an overall “essay” so to speak. This is the introductory paragraph, and my thesis statement is: “This is me, authentically. I’m going with the flow of life, I have trouble from time to time, but I get better not bitter, and so should everyone. I’m learning more about my sound every time I go to record, and I’m just ridin’ the wave.” Oh.. my first project is ALREADY out on Apple Music, Spotify, and YouTube, so go peep it! Keep up with MiLynnna! www.instagram.com/virgil.towns #BuzzMusic
- Refreshing Punk Rock Trio The Lungs Release “Pythium (Roots Rotten)”
The Lungs are a Los Angeles based feral punk rock trio that deliver intense and passionate tunes. Formed in 2016, The Lungs aim to express their discontent with the current status quo during today’s trying times. After a few demo exchanges between San Fernando Valley based musicians Trevor Howard and Billy Goldstein, the idea of a hardcore punk band together was set. All they needed was a drummer. Enter Dylan Howard, Trevor’s sibling, who agreed to man the position upon hearing the demos. Straddling the grey line between chord structures heard in the first wave era of hardcore punk and the rhythmic complexity, overpowering noise, and frantic riffs, which round out Hydra Head Records catalog being their competitive advantage. Their song subject matter isn’t puffery; it’s real and relatable talk ranging from substance abuse, mental health collapse, and collective economic pressures. Hard-hitting guitar riffs and thunderous melodies start the track “Pythium (Roots Rotten)” off to an incredible launch. The contagious tune blends perfectly with the heavy metal vocals. Elements of contemporary rock blend with elements of gritty excellence in this taste of musical chaos. “Pythium” moves into screaming vocals and a pummeling guitar solo to melt your face off. We love what we’re hearing so far and so do The Lungs’ listeners. We get a taste of a darker and melancholic side of the vocalism. The haunting song explodes into infectious melodies and catchy riffs. With more of a storytelling element, “Pythium” delivers powerful and precise vocals. Fresh and ground-breaking sound arrangements in The Lungs’ track “Pythium” have me blown away. The band members have inspiring and special ideas when it comes to creating music. The Lungs' chemistry is evident through the speakers. Dedication to craft in the detail is admirable while the infectious and vivid music fused together is awakening. The Lungs bring raw energy and an indefinitely loud testimony to the magic of the underground scene with “Pythium”. Layered guitars, ground breaking vocals and emotive lyricism give the track a transporting feeling. Give “Pythium (Roots Rotten)” a listen and stay on the lookout for The Lungs. Check out “Pythium (Roots Rotten)” here and read more with The Lungs below! The Lungs, welcome to BuzzMusic! Can you start by introducing yourselves to our readers? Thanks for having us!! We’re really excited to be doing this with you. First, we got Billy Goldstein who lays down the bass, then Dylan Howard who crushes the drums and lastly me, Trevor Howard, I play guitar and do probably most of the singing overall but we all contribute pretty heavily vocally, especially on this track! How did you come up with the band name The Lungs? How did the band form? A couple years ago Billy and I were texting about how much we loved bands like Dead Kennedys, Black Flag and The Misfits. I suggested we should start a band like those but mixed with everything else we love. About twenty minutes later he sent me a few voice memo recordings of these really awesome bass riffs. I immediately sent these recordings to my brother Dylan who plays drums and we were instantly all in. It just clicked. As far as the band name goes we made a huge list of names that started with “The…” and that's the one that grabbed us the most. It’s taken on more of a meaning now that we’ve been playing a couple years together. What’s the overall theme of your track “Pythium (Roots Rotten)” ? The track is about how religion is truly so large, and old, and well-meaning; but fraught with corruption, deception and blind loyalty. It’s not necessarily a message saying that all religion is worthless. It’s more of an expression of a feeling that it may have been intended to be an altruistic guideline to live your life by. The lyrics question the tenet that people are born, full of sin, and that religion can help wipe that and heal the world. Billy does the lead vocal on this one and he and Dylan share the chorus! How has the LA music scene influenced the music you create today? We’ve met so many awesome bands and amazing people from playing in LA throughout the years who have influenced us in a lot of different ways. One of those things is that everyone is at the top of their game, so it’s very motivating to constantly be bettering ourselves, our live show and our songs. If you take all this information and use it the right way, you can evolve at an exponential rate. Can you tell us about any upcoming releases? We can't wait to hear what's next! Yes! Our next single is coming out August 30th! We’re really excited about this one, its called “Vizitant”. It’s the first single off our upcoming debut full length called “Psychic Tombs”. It explores a bit more of the melodic side of things that we do while staying heavy and high energy. Thanks so much again for having us! Can you tell us a bit about yourself and how you got started in the music industry? Growing up I always knew music meant something to me but I never thought it could be my career. It wasn't until I met the rest of my team and started putting music out that I saw the response and support from people I didn't know. It made it real. Is your track “Feeling Some Way” related to your real life experiences? Yeah I guess you can say that. On the surface Feeling Some Way is a track about a guy catching feelings for the girl after agreeing the relationship was just physical. But to me, I wrote it as a conversation with myself making excuses to validate her reasons as to why she left. Who are you musical influences and how did you pull from them for your new track “Feeling Some Way”? I'ma be honest with you, I can tell you my musical influences but I feel like of none of them inspired me for this track. The recording process for this was not really conventional. My producer locked me in the studio and brought out all this emotion in me by bringing up the past. This whole track was done in one take. I didn't write anything, I didn't prepare. It was just a freestyle. So in that moment I didn't pull from anything, it was all me. What would be your dream venue to perform at? I don't know I feel like every artist would say Madison Square Gardens. But I don't really have a dream venue, I have people I aspire to perform with, like PND or DVSN. That would be dope. When you’re not making music what do you do? Working to make better music. I'm always teaching myself ways to improve or studying how to be better. We love your EP “We Good” ! Can you talk about the overall theme of the EP? The overall theme of the project is growth. The project serves to showcase everything we've learned and experienced during the time since our previous project. We went through changes to our group and our personal lives and that's reflected in the music. During the creation of the EP, what was your time like in the studio? Is this when you saw the EP come to life? Studio sessions were always interesting. Most of the sessions were spent telling jokes and having random conversations completely unrelated to music. We had a large pool of songs to choose from but the EP didn't truly come to life until we decided on what to name it. What do you hope your listeners take away from your music? We want the listeners to hear a Venture Klan song and feel that they can relate to the experience of people who they've never met before while still being able to vibe out to the songs. What track on the EP would you say made you channel the most emotion when creating it and why? The song that made us channel the most emotion is "Pressure". That song reflects the high demands of adulthood and the difficulty of balancing that with the struggles of chasing your dreams. There's an added emotional layer to the song because all of the lyrics are based on our actual life experiences. Do you have any upcoming events or shows you’d like to talk about? We're excited to hear what you're working on! On August 17th we're throwing our 3rd Annual VentureMania event at the Dwyer Cultural Center in Harlem, NYC. Its a huge concert/ networking event for all creatives and fans. We have a few artists performing alongside us and a pop up shop featuring some local small businesses. Check out “Like Everybody Else” ft Amanda Murillo here and read more below in our interview with Matthew J.! Welcome to BuzzMusic Matthew! Can you start by telling us more about yourself and how you got started in the music industry? Thank you! And for sure. I guess my start was in college when I started deejaying but I think when I started getting regular bookings in New York is when I started to take it more seriously. How long have you been making music and what inspired you to pursue it? Actually producing my own music I'd say about 2 or 3 years. Most of my inspiration to start creating my own was just from all the years of seeing how good people felt when I was out playing. Deejaying is essentially people watching for the extent of your set and seeing so many people forgetting about whatever was going on in their life for a little bit and just enjoying themselves to something that you're doing is a surreal feeling. So producing my own music is really just my way of being able to provide that same feeling to people but all the time, not just when I'm deejaying. How did you translate your theme into sound in your track “Like Everybody Else”? The original by Lennon Stella is such a beautifully written song I really didn't do much with the chord progression or anything for this cover. I've worked with Amanda before so I already had a pretty good idea of how she was going to sound & I also knew the direction I wanted to take the end result. I created a real bare bones track for Amanda to record over, like some pads drums and a little bassline. I went in afterwards with her vocals and built the pianos and everything else around her voice. What made you fall in love with Electronic music and how does this influence how you create the music you make today? I grew up listening to the classic Louie Devito NYC Underground albums but I think what really hooked me was seeing Tiesto when he was on his Kaleidoscope Tour in like 2009. The influence on this has on how I create my own music now I think is just like I had said before. I remember the feeling that night gave me and I just want to share that with everyone else through my own music. What is it like collaborating with other artists? Does this boost your creativity? I really enjoy it, I think everyone can learn something of off everyone else. Or at least I feel like I can always learn something from someone else hahaha. I've had great mentors coming up through the industry and I've been very fortunate to meet singers from all over the world that have been nothing but amazing to work with. I've worked with artists in LA and Italy whom I've never even met in person but we vibe so well together. I've worked with another girl from that I've actually became friends with and met a couple times out here in New York. All three of these artists I met through Instagram. The internet has opened up so many different doors and collaborations with other artists is one of the biggest doors it opened. You never know who someone else will know either and in this Industry, you're always one song and one contact away from your entire life changing. No stranger to success, his album “Baby Snappeazus” is yet another big step in the right direction for SALLYWHITE. Check out “Baby Snappeazus” here and read more below in our exclusive interview below! Hi SALLYWHITE! Welcome to BuzzMusic! Can you start by telling us more about yourself and your upbringing into music? I had an attraction to music at an early age. I always wanted to express myself through art. I switched my creative approach from drawing and painting to rhyming around middle school. I'm Sallywhite from Thomson, GA, a small town about 30 minutes outside of Augusta. Sallywhite is my mother's last name and yes, it's one word. My mama used to make up these lullabies and sing my younger brother to sleep. In some way I think that made me want to create my own songs... I could be reaching lol, but that's just a musical memory I have as a child that could have swayed my musical interest. However, my intentions are to wake people instead of putting them to sleep, lol. Also, I have an Uncle that sings in church, and seeing the congregation's soul touched by his singing always amazed me. Unfortunately, I wasn't blessed with the voice of an angel, so I embraced rapping. Who are you musical influences? Why? I have a long list of artist that I looked up to, but my main musical influences are Field Mob and OutKast... They related to me in a way that showed me being different was not abnormal, but an advantage to compete with adversity. Authentic originality doesn't fade. What inspires your writing? My writing is inspired by the struggle to survive and the pursuit of happiness. I love metaphors and wordplay. Being able to take those things, attach them to a storyline, and create a piece of art can be powerful if it's done right. There isn't necessarily a wrong or right in art. I create the things that I feel, and if it touches someone else, that's a plus. What was the overall theme of your album “Baby Snappeazus? What do you hope your listeners take away from it? Baby Snappeazus is just that, a baby. The theme of the album is the potential to be great. When u see a baby, all you see is that moment, not knowing what the future holds for them. The album depicts the journey of a baby destined for greatness, but more so the obstacles along the way, and the battle between humbleness and confidence. The meaning of the name Snappeazus comes from the level of rapping or "snapping" ability. If something is really dope, we might say such and such snapped. So with Snapp being a nickname of mine, I became the Jesus of snapping, hence Snappeazus. From this album, I want people to take away the urge to create their own destiny. I want them to see the mistakes I've made and understand that nobody is perfect, and we can all be successful with passion and faith. What’s next for SALLYWHITE? I've been trying to secure a deal with Puma for yearsssss, so I'm going to continue to speak that into existence. This album had the smash single "Salsa" on it (also another nickname of mine), so I might need to look into getting my own brand of actual salsa dip. My other love after music and Pumas is avocados. My dad passed last year and left my sister, brother, and l some land, so I'm going to convince them to let me plant some avocado trees lol... I'm for real though. Also I'm looking to stick a spoon in the vegan ice cream business. As u can see my mind is all over the place so once I get a hold of it, I plan on releasing a new album early fall. The album will be called..... Well stay tuned to find out. Follow me on Instagram @sallywhiteisoneword, and the Facebook SALLYWHITE page. For now babysit Baby Snappeazus for me and if he starts to cry, put a little Shclitz Malt Liqour in his bottle lol. Connect with SALLYWHITE on social media www.instagram.com/sallywhiteisoneword

At 21 years old, Rhia won a scholarship and relocated to Boston in the United States to study at the world-famous Berklee College of Music. At Berklee, Rhia found a home in a school that attracted many other already-established musicians who were looking for ways to grow. “Fire” is a hypnotizing soulful hip hop/future-bass inspired electro-pop anthem, Rhia wrote it and co-produced it alongside Samuel PK Smith (Bebe Rexha) who produced, mixed and mastered it. The soft synths and light backings take you on a journey. Rhia is able to completely send the listener into a trance with her heavenly tones. Her vibrant lyrics perfectly describe the meaningful love and powerful feelings behind every single written word through this track. “Fire” comes equipped with lyrics about overcoming a situation where you feel squashed, finally gaining the courage to find your voice again. I believe that Rhia has an ear for musical sounds that are well beyond her age. I hope this is a good indicator of what’s to come from Rhia going forward because we’re bumping “Fire” on repeat. “Fire” is transporting and relatable and is an incredible powerhouse track! Check out “Fire” here and keep scrolling for an interview with the artist below! Hi Rhia! Can you start by telling us more about yourself? What inspired you to start creating music? Hey guys! Thanks again for having me on Buzz Music! Yes! I’m from Melbourne in Australia, which is similar to New York in my opinion. I honestly don’t know what it was, I just remember doing it, and I think I was probably just heavily into it pretty early, so it’s hard to know how it started. My best friend wanted to be an actress and I wanted to be a musician. She kept telling me that but I would force her to write songs with me and be part of my band haha Your voice is beautiful, how long have you been singing for? Aww thank you! My mum used to have an old record player and she played a lot of vinyl, I remember hearing a lot of Bob Marley, Stevie Wonder and Led Zeppelin at home. I don’t know specifically when I first started, but my first memory is at about 4 or 5 recording myself singing along on a cassette player, and I would listen back to try and get better. I started lessons shortly after that and then I started getting work doing professional sessions and performing. What’s the meaning behind the lyrics of “Fire”? It’s about finding your voice again. I related it to a lot of different themes which I noticed were very similar. It could be a relationship, a friend, family, your job, a scenario, even just your own negativity or doubts and so on. It’s about feeling like someone or something has been squashing you and you’re struggling to speak up for yourself. You’ve had enough and you’re sick of being taken for a ride when you’re better than that. But they get off on you believing you’re not, it’s cruel. It’s about freedom and the courage to get it, and saying “no, I’m a good person and I don’t deserve this." What do you hope your listeners take away from your music? I hope it gives people strength if they need it What’s next for you? My next release is coming out very soon :) I think I might have a music video coming out shortly too, and I’m writing and recording a lot. I have a few different collabs coming out that I’m really excited about and I’m doing lots of live shows which I’m waiting to announce as well, so please keep an eye out. Check out “Goal Digger” here and read more below in our exclusive interview! Hi Myles Em! What was your upbringing into music like? How did you get started? -Had a pretty cool upbringing, came up around alot of music in the house being played nonstop. Father had a Jazz band he played in with his brothers and my mom was a connoisseur of anything musically coming from the west coast and New Orleans. I got started freestyling and having random rap battles with my brother and the kids in the neighborhood. Who are your music influences? How do they inspire your sound? -For Influences, I'd say the greats like Bob Marley, Lauryn Hill, Kendrick Lamar, J.Cole, and Timbaland. First of all you know that feeling you get when you feel like you know an artist personally just through their music, yes that happens everytime with them. Being able to make my music feel relatable as much as possible as well. They've inspired me to go the extra mile and push myself, knowing what you stand for and believe in. Understanding that music heals and growth as an artist is real important. What sets “GOAL DIGGER” apart in the hip-hop music industry? -I feel that "GOAL DIGGER" to me is another form of paying homage to the 90's Golden Era when hiphop was more about having a strong relatable concept and a story to tell. I feel like subject matter took a major backseat in alot of music you hear nowadays. We love the track “Goal Digger”, can you dive into more details about the lyrics? What was the writing process like? -For one, when I start off by saying "You ever had a chick that was strong as your backbone, the love is real, ain't nothing about it silicone". I meant from a guys perspective that the woman you're with as your significant other has your back no matter what, through the ups and downs, she still manages to have your back. -The writing process was fun, me and my girl were getting back to a good place at the time so the real inspiration goes to her. Once I had the concept, and Idea down I knew what I wanted to say and ran with it. Can you share what you have planned with your music in the next few months? -A couple more (6 track) projects I plan on putting out this year for more content to build a buzz. Besides on songwriting, I have a beat store website I'm currently working on at the moment to show the producer side of me. More collaborations with fellow artist from my city, and pushing my Brand "Diggin4Goal" out into the world. That's the GOAL!!!!!!! Connect with Myles Em on social media www.instagram.com/myles.em
